Weighted blankets borrow a therapy technique called "deep pressure stimulation" (DPS) to calm you down and promote quality rest. By mimicking the sensation of a hug, they can trigger the same "feel-good" neurotransmitter response as cuddling and swaddling.
Research suggests that weighted blankets have a calming effect and may reduce insomnia severity. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, a 2020 study showed that participants who slept under a weighted blanket for four weeks were 26 percent more likely to show a 50 percent decrease or more in their insomnia severity compared to a control group.
